African American Poetry: Home

Notable African American Poets

Overview

African American poets play a critical role in history. African American poetry often reflects on the strength and hardships of African Americans pertaining to a particular era. For this reason African American poetry serves dual purposes which includes but is not limited to Black Consciousness and escapist literature.

African American poetry is housed in Special Collections in Rm.403 and in the Heritage Collection in Rm. A410 of Samuel H. Coleman Memorial Library.
