Law Library Orientation: Circulation Policies

This guide will introduce you to the FAMU Law Library and its services & policies.

Circulation Policies

Borrowing Privileges

Borrowing privileges are available to the following groups:

  • Faculty, students and staff at FAMU College of Law with an ID card
  • Members of the Orange County Bar Association may borrow CLE materials

Circulating Materials

The loan period for circulating materials is three weeks. Items may be renewed in person or by phone.  The following materials do not circulate: reference (located on the first floor), law reviews and journals, reporters, statutes, digests, looseleaf materials, and serials.

Reserve Materials

The loan period for reserve books and materials is two hours. A valid ID card must be presented to the circulation staff to check out any material from the Law Library. Promptly returning reserve materials is extremely important so that other students may have access to the materials. Reserve materials may NOT leave the library.

Do not highlight or write in reserve books, including textbooks. If you do so, you will be charged the cost of the book plus a replacement fee.

Course Reserves

Faculty may place specific books on reserve for individual courses. Please check your syllabus or with your professor to determine if the material is on “Reserve” or “Course Reserve”. Check out and renewals for “Course Reserve” materials may be limited. Reserve materials may NOT leave the library.

Renewing Books

There are several ways to renew books from the Law Library:

  • Patrons may renew books in person by bringing the items to the Circulation Desk to have them checked in and checked back out to them
  • Patrons may also renew their books by calling the Law Library at (407) 254-3263 and providing barcodes for individual books
  • Reserve materials can only be renewed in person

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Requests

FAMU Law students and faculty may borrow resources not available at FAMU Law Library through Interlibrary Loan. This service allows users to borrow circulating sources from other libraries throughout the nation via OCLC. Interlibrary loan requests may be submitted at the circulation desk. Requestors will be notified by email when the item(s) is/are available.

Services for Students with Disabilities

Students who need assistance in retrieving or copying materials, access to the second floor of the library, or other services should ask for assistance at the Circulation Desk.
