About UBorrow

What is UBORROW?
UBorrow allows you to request materials directly from participating libraries within Florida's state university system.  This unmediated borrowing service increases your access to the collections of the other universities in Florida and delivers more quickly than standard Interlibrary Loan.

Who is eligible?
Current FAMU students, faculty and staff who have a valid Rattler Card are eligible to place requests through UBORROW.

What can I get through UBorrow?
Currently you may reqeust only books.  
Plans for later phases include adding article requesting, and requests beyond Florida's state university system.

What if the item I requested is not available?
If the item you requested is not available at any of the libraries in the state university system, please contact the College of Law Library.

What are the loan periods?
You are given 30 days from the time the item arrives on campus.  Again, youll receive an email as soon as your item is received and ready for pickup. 

How long does it take to get a UBorrow item?
The average time to receive items is four business days.

Can I renew my loans?
You may request one renewal for materials borrowed through UBORROW.  Please note, this is a request, so you will want to place your request several days before your item is due.  After you place your request, you will receive an email notifying you of the new due date or that your request was denied.

What happens if my items are overdue?
You will receive email notifications about your overdue UBORROW items just as you do for the items that you borrow from the FAMU Libraries.  Fines also apply for all overdue, lost, and damaged UBORROW loans.

Where can I return my items?
You can return your UBORROW items at the FAMU College of Law Library.

Why do Ebooks have a UBorrow button? 
Some Ebooks listed in the catalog may be electronically available to only one institution. The UBorrow button will allow you to request a print copy.

Can I use UBorrow from my home computer? 
Yes, you can access UBorrow anywhere simply by logging in to your account through the FAMU Catalog.

How will I know when my UBorrow book is ready for me to pick up? 
You will receive an automated email notifying you when your UBorrow book is ready for you to pick up. The email will also confirm the pickup location of your requested item.

How many books can I borrow through UBorrow? 
UBorrow allows 100 active requests at any time.

Can I see my account? 
Yes. All of the books you have checked out, the books that you've requested, and the due dates for your home library and for all UBorrow requests may be viewed online by logging into your account. This allows you to monitor all of your obligations to all participating libraries at any time. You are responsible to return all materials by given due dates.

What happens if one of my UBorrow books gets recalled?
Recalls require patrons to return materials within 7 days of receiving the recall notice. Materials must be checked out to a patron at least 7 days before they are subject to recall.

Can I borrow two copies of this book at one time? 
UBorrow will allow only one request per title at a time to be loaned to a patron.

UBorrow Process

Run a search in the FAMU Catalog.

If the item is unavailable or you did not find what you were looking for, select the UBorrow icon at the top of the screen.

You will go to the Combined State Universities catalog. Click on the text Sign in to renew books, place holds and access UBorrow.

Use your Rattler card Library Number (begins with 20900) and your birthdate or the last 4 digits of your SSN to log into your account.

Once logged in, your name will appear at the top of the screen. Click "Search" to search the database.

Scroll through the results. Select the item you want by clicking on the UBorrow icon within the record.

The request verification screen will appear. Select your preferred pick up location from the drop down list and click the Place Request button.

Your request is now on order. You may check the status of your UBorrow request by signing into your library account. When the item arrives, an email will be sent to you notifying you of its arrival.
